Jet2, Ryanair, Easyjet and TUI passengers warned their flights ‘may be cancelled’

Passengers flying out of a UK airport this summer have been warned they are at risk of having their flights and holidays cancelled. Jet2, Ryanair, Easyjet and TUI passengers flying out of Aberdeen Airport have been warned.

Online casino comparison site Casino Alpha looked at data from the UK Civil Aviation Authority to find the number and percentage of flight cancellations at UK airports throughout 2023. Airports were required to have 10,000 or more flights scheduled during the year, with the highest percentage of cancellations determined by ranking.

Aberdeen Airport came out on top, with 4.39% of scheduled flights cancelled in 2023. It also reported 28,690 scheduled flights, of which 1,318 did not take place, and 31.02% of flights arrived at their destination up to 15 minutes late.

10% of flights land 16 to 30 minutes late. London City Airport comes in second in terms of cancellation rate with 4.04% and the top 3 is completed by George Best Belfast City Airport with 3.6%, according to the CAA findings.

Southampton Airport (3.15%) and Leeds Bradford Airport (3%) complete the top five. Also in the top ten are larger and more popular airports, including Glasgow Airport (6th) (2.38%) and Heathrow Airport (7th) (2.06%).

Gatwick Airport (1.85%) completes the top 10 alongside Jersey Airport (1.66%) and Edinburgh Airport (1.63%). A Casino Alpha spokesperson commented on the results: “No one wants to arrive at the airport to find their flight has been cancelled, but sometimes unforeseen circumstances mean travel plans can’t go ahead.

“The data clearly shows that all UK airports are experiencing a serious lack of punctuality, even when flights are running as scheduled.”
