Here are five of the best places to save around Nottingham

Here are five of the best places to save around Nottingham

Because we are all tired of scrolling Shein for hours

If you’re anything like me, when you first arrived in Notts you probably weren’t enthralled by the shopping options.

And sure, finally finding the Victoria Center was a breakthrough, but sometimes it just doesn’t cut it when you’re looking for good quality clothing on a student budget.

But don’t worry, here are five of the best places to save to avoid going broke and still snag some excellent finds:

Beeston-Hoofdstraat

It may be a bit of a trek for those of us who live in the city and Lenton, but it’s always a worthwhile journey as once you get off the bus there are charity shops in abundance.

Personally, I recommend the British Heart Foundation near the Pudding Pantry; it really has a great charity shop atmosphere, and I found a few things there that will stay in my wardrobe for a while.

If what you find there isn’t your speed, don’t worry: there are another half-dozen charity shops to check out.

How to find it: Take bus 36 from Derby Road or just outside Lenton Hall and get off at Jessamine Court. You will find the treasure room just past the Tesco. If you walk all the way down the street, there is another bus stop at the end, so you don’t have to walk all the way back!

Cow

Don’t feel like going all the way to Beeston?

There are also plenty of options in the city center, and Cow has pretty much everything you could want on a thrifty trip.

Great atmosphere in the store? Bill. Good quality vintage clothing? Bill. Things you would actually want to wear? Bill.

And what’s more, it’s located on Carlton Street, which in my humble opinion is home to some of the best cafes Notts has to offer. Next time you’re in town, I definitely recommend checking it out.

How to find it: Get off the tram at Lace Market. You can see it at the top of the street.

White Rose

I’ll be honest, this place confused me as a fresher.

You’d be walking through town, see a white rose, remind yourself to come back later, keep walking, and… three more white roses?

However, there may be a reason why this place is everywhere: there’s good fashion, it’s eco-friendly, and the prices are out of this world.

I’ve spent many hours browsing the racks and with so many stores it can be difficult to hold on to that student loan.

How to find it: If you’re in the center, you’re pretty much already there. There’s a big one near the Oude Markt tram stop, but whatever your destination, you’ll probably find one.

Bookwise

if you are a nerd like me you will absolutely love this place.

It’s full of interesting second-hand books and music, and you’re sure to find something that appeals to you.

Maybe a good idea to get away from all that reading with a good novel…

How to find it: As you walk along Bodega and Carlton Street, this place will catch your eye. Again, it’s surrounded by some great eateries, so make sure you visit the area!

Wild clothes

This place is considered the best by students all over Notts.

It’s full of vintage and second-hand, well-branded clothing at a reasonable price, and getting lost in the racks is almost painfully easy.

If I have one thing to say about this place it’s that you go there with your mind, otherwise you’ll probably walk away with one too many shopping bags.

How to find it: Drive up Carlton Street and turn right at Hockley Kitchen. It’s quite easy to spot because the store is bright red.

And one more thing: it’s not a year-round option, but keep an eye on the vintage kilo sales and the other clothing sales on campus.

More often than not they sell name brands for much cheaper than you would find them in the store.

If you ever have an hour between classes when these sales happen on campus, head down and see what you can find.
