On the way to the game, the pair was involved in a head-on collision with a Chevy Camaro, according to Kansas State Police.

Barba and the driver of the Camaro were killed in the crash.

Barnett is in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, according to a GoFundMe set up for the family.

Barba’s uncle told KOCO it was the 18-year-old’s quick reaction behind the wheel that likely saved his mother’s life.

“Connor made a right turn and hit the brakes as hard as he could,” his uncle said KOCO. “When Connor did that, he took the full brunt of the Camero’s car.”

According to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they have donated $10,000 to Barba’s family ESPN.

“We send our love to Connor Barba’s family as they grieve this tragic loss,” the Buccaneers organization said posted on Xsharing the GoFundMe. “Please join us in supporting Connor’s family during this challenging time.”

“I’m honored and humbled knowing Connor was such a big fan. I would have loved to meet him,” Mayfield, the Bucs quarterback, said in an interview statement issued to ESPN. “As a new parent, this is a real hit for me. I realize there are no words that can provide true comfort at a time like this, but I hope Megan makes a full recovery and that she finds strength in the outpouring of support she is receiving from across the country.”
