“Meet Your Farmer” event highlights local agriculture

A new event at the Rock Island County Fair highlights local agriculture.

The “Meet Your Farmer” event will take place on Wednesday, July 17th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds, 4200 Archer Drive in East Moline. The Rock Island Soil & Water Conservation District, Rock Island County Farm Bureau and Precision Conservation Management are hosting the event.


The day’s program includes:

9am – Farmers’ market showcasing local produce

10:00 AM – Canning Demonstration with University of Illinois Extension

11:00 AM – Keynote Speaker Raghela Scavuzzo, Deputy Director of Food Systems Development, Illinois Farm Bureau

12:00 – Lunch (free for all participants, first come, first served)

12:00 p.m. – Fermentation demonstration

1:00 p.m. – Round tables with local farmers on conservation

1:00 p.m. – Check-in for the Pedal Tractor Pull (free for children 12 and under)

2:00 p.m. – Pedal tractor pulling competition

2:30 p.m. – Presentations from Precision Conservation Management and the Rock Island Soil & Water Conservation District

3:00 p.m. – Beekeeping demonstration

3:00 p.m. – Activities for children

The fun event will take place at the group’s tent next to the Copeland Center. Admission to the fair is free and a complimentary lunch catered by A Guy and A Grill will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
