Two accused of stealing from new Dothan Animal Shelter site

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – Police have charged two men with stealing construction materials from Dothan’s under-construction animal shelter.

Williams Allen Navarre, 43, of Dothan, and Bobby Gene Chandler, 50, of Atlanta, are charged with burglary.

“The theft was discovered on November 4 when workers returned from the weekend to find items missing from the construction site,” Dothan Police Lt. Scott Owens said in a statement released Friday morning.

Officers charged Navarre with one count of Theft of Property 1st Degree and one count of Burglary 3rd Degree with bonds totaling $10,000. Chandler faces charges of first-degree theft of property and third-degree burglary with bonds totaling $20,000.

“Investigators used various investigative techniques, including surveillance cameras, and identified suspects in the theft,” Owens said.

The animal shelter is under construction along Hartford Highway near Honeysuckle Road.
