UCLA Cross Country Team Announces Updated Coaching Staff, 2024 Schedule

LOS ANGELES – UCLA will retain Andre Ferris as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 campaign, UCLA director of track and field/cross country Joanna Hayes announced Friday.

Ferris remains with the Bruins as they prepare for the 2024 campaign; the fall game schedule is now available.

“I am thrilled to remain in Westwood,” Ferris said, “and look forward to continuing the momentum of our program. I am grateful to Coach Hayes for the opportunity to continue working with our team remotely – her enthusiasm is contagious and she has a great vision for the future of the Bruins!”

Ferris, who was on staff for the 2023-24 cross country and track and field seasons, was responsible for leading distance runners on the course and track for events from 800m to 10,000m. In his first season with the UCLA track and field team, he helped the juniors Mia Kane win the Pac-12 individual title in the 3,000m steeplechase. With guidance from Ferris, Michel Mireles The Bruins finished second in the conference in the men’s 5,000m race. The Bruins also earned eight spots on UCLA’s all-time top 10 lists in both indoor and outdoor distance events through the 2024 track and field seasons.

“I am delighted to have the coach Andre Ferris “He will continue to lead and inspire our cross country and distance athletes,” Hayes said. “Coach Ferris has a proven track record of delivering great results and building trust among his athletes. I look forward to working with him to continue UCLA’s historic legacy.”

The distance coach has won 14 All-American honors and 21 conference championship titles under his watch during his NCAA coaching career. He also coaches professional runner Maël Gouyette, who will represent France in the men’s 1,500m at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ferris and the Bruin distance team will be back in action after the World Games conclude in August; UCLA has three regular-season games on the schedule before the playoffs begin in November.

The Bruins will open the 2024 campaign with a dual meet against UC Riverside; the two programs will square off in Big Bear, Calif., to begin the season. The Bruins will see familiar foes when they visit the University of Oregon in mid-October for the Bill Dellinger Invite. UCLA will face its new conference opponents at the Big Ten Championships, hosted by the University of Illinois, on Nov. 1. The Bruins will travel to Washington State for the NCAA West Regional meet two weeks after the conference meet; student-athletes who advance from the West Regional will compete in the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 23.
