Baldur’s Gate 3 Developers Hire Artist After She Offered to Draw ‘Muscle Mom Karlach’

Artist Anna Hollinrake has revealed that she was able to work with Larian, the developers behind Baldur’s Gate 3, thanks to a cold open email offering to draw the “muscle mom Karlach” for a T-shirt design.

Despite its resounding success, Baldur’s Gate 3 has yet to be monetized in any way, outside of a few deluxe digital bonuses. Larian has no plans to release any DLC despite player requests.

So the only way for loyal fans to get more Baldur’s Gate 3 into their lives is through merchandise. They have the traditional array of art books, records, and t-shirts you’d expect from a video game developer’s merch store, but one artist has found a way to work with Larian to give them something they didn’t have yet.

With the opening line “I led the art creation of Fall Guys apparel, please let me design a Karlach muscle mom t-shirt,” one Anna Hollinrake managed to land a job designing a t-shirt for the company.

The t-shirt features a baby Owlbear napping with Scratch at camp, a nod to two animal companions the player can encounter during BG3’s campaign.

However, keen-eyed Baldur’s Gate 3 fans may have noticed the conspicuous absence of the “Muscle Mom Karlach” on this t-shirt. The Karlach lovers among you are probably flying your flags at half-mast.

Hollinrake’s replies were filled with people saying things like, “But where is Karlach’s muscle shirt???” and “Does this shirt already exist?”

Given how much the Baldur’s Gate 3 characters are admired by fans, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them appear on merchandise in the future so fans can represent their favorite member of the group. But, as of now, there are no official Karlach t-shirts, nor any t-shirts with any of the BG3 members on them.

While she has yet to provide any updates on whether or not Larian is still interested in putting Karlach on a t-shirt as stated in her initial email, Hollinrake is in the meantime working on her own game called Crescent County.
