Prince William sends message of support to England players ahead of Euro 2024 final against Spain: ‘One last effort!’

Prince William has urged Harry Kane’s men to “go out and show the world” as the royals head to Berlin for the Euro final against Spain.

In a message posted on X, the Prince of Wales said he was “very proud” of England ahead of the final match.

In a personal message, written by the prince himself and signed “W”, he said: “We are so proud of you all, England, one last push to finish the job!

“Go out and show the world what you’re made of.”

“We believe. W”

Prince William has shown his support throughout the tournament, appearing at several matches and cheering on the team, including during England’s win over Switzerland last week.

William has confirmed he will attend the final tomorrow in Berlin while the Princess of Wales is expected to present the trophies on Centre Court.

The Prince of Wales, FA president and lifelong Aston Villa fan, tweeted: “What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations England! #EURO2024 finalists. W.”

Prince William’s appearance last week came after he was spotted at England’s group stage match against Denmark on June 20, which ended in a 1-1 draw after an early goal by captain Harry Kane.

The Prince was incredibly animated throughout the Euro clash last month, including rising from his seat and applauding after the opening goal in the 18th minute.

But by the end of the game, William – like most of the nation’s players – had his hands in his face after a less than convincing performance which saw England draw level at 1-1 thanks to a wonder strike from Denmark midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

The royal had previously described England’s 2-1 extra-time win over Slovakia in the last 16 as an “emotional rollercoaster”, but the Three Lions’ last two games have arguably been even more tense with a last-minute Ollie Watkins winner sending Gareth Southgate’s men into the final against the Netherlands.

And he’s not the only member of the royal family to throw his support behind the team as they prepare for the final match and hope to be crowned Euro 2024 winners.

King Charles and Queen Camilla congratulated the team on reaching the final with a heartfelt statement.

She joined her husband, Prince William, and their children, Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte, at Buckingham Palace to attend this year’s Trooping The Colour event.

Her Majesty said: “My wife and I join our whole family in extending our warmest congratulations on reaching the UEFA European Championship final – and our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.

“If I can encourage you to get the win before you have to score last minute goals or suffer another penalty shootout drama, I’m sure the stress on the heart rate and blood pressure of the entire nation would be greatly eased! Good luck, England. Charles R.”

The prince confirmed he would watch the match from the stands in Berlin and would be joined by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

And while William is hopeful that the England men’s team will manage to lift the trophy – their first victory at a major tournament since the World Cup in 1966 – Kate has confirmed she will be at Wimbledon tomorrow to present the men’s trophy.

Kensington Palace said the Princess of Wales would present the award to either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court tomorrow.

However, she will not be present today and Wimbledon chairwoman Debbie Jevans will instead present the ladies’ champion trophy on Kate’s behalf to either Jasmine Paolini or Barbora Krejcikova after the women’s singles final.

Contingency plans had been put in place for the Duchess of Gloucester, honorary president of the Lawn Tennis Association for 25 years, to step in if the Princess of Wales was unavailable due to her ongoing preventative cancer treatment.

Kate, 42, was last seen in public watching Trooping The Colour last month.

The princess said last month she hoped to attend the occasional engagement over the summer, but urged the public to be patient with her because, like many cancer patients, she has “good days and bad days”.
