Christian Horner breaks silence on .2 million RB17 Hypercar potentially racing at Le Mans – FirstSportz

Adrian Newey had deemed his exit from all duties within Red Bull by the end of the 2024 season. However, the aero-genius still had to work on the RB17 Hypercar before leaving the constructor. Hence, as the 2024 F1 season is in full swing, Milton Keynes revealed the final RB17 Hypercar designed by the technical wizard. Christian Horner broke his silence beyond the potential of the car.

Adrian Newey was rumored to be relegated to work on the RB17 Hypercar project amidst the ongoing tensions at Red Bull. Many people speculated the underlying reason behind Newey’s shocking exit from Milton Keynes. Regardless, the aero-genius finished his work with the RB17 Hypercar and exited the team as Christian Horner showcased his wishes to see the Hypercar race in Le Mans.

The RB17 Hypercar isn’t designed with any specific racing category in mind. Hence, the chassis cost approximately $6.2 million which was revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Christian Horner noted that he wasn’t sure about which category the Hypercar would fit in. However, racing the RB17 Hypercar at Le Mans would be ‘amazing’ for the Red Bull Boss.

I'm not sure what category it could race in, but it'd be amazing to see that car run at the front of Le Mans.

Christian Horner said, as reported by racingnews365.com.

Christian Horner called RB17 Hypercar as Adrian Newey’s ‘utopia’

Adrian Newey’s work at the pinnacle of motorsport has taken multiple constructors to monumental heights. However, the chassis development is conducted under specific rules and regulations in mind. The RB17 Hypercar wasn’t built under such constraints. As a result, Horner labeled the chassis as Newey’s ‘utopia.’

This car is about is basically Adrian's utopia, It's him let off the leash.

Christian Horner added.

Additionally, the Red Bull boss pointed out the other aspects of the Hypercar, especially the reason why even Max Verstappen would struggle in it.

There are no FIA constraints, there's no cost cap. You can see influences from all his cars over the years. It has an insane amount of performance.  Even Max Verstappen would struggle to extract the amount of performance that this car has, such as the level of downforce.

Christian Horner concluded.

The RB17 Hypercar will always remain a great reminder of the legendary Adrian Newey and his efforts with Red Bull. The aero-genius is leaving behind a great legacy at Red Bull in Formula 1. Hence, the technical wizard will be remembered for generations to come for the Austrian Constructor.
