Police charge driver with vehicular homicide in Murfreesboro crash


Crash kills 28-year-old man

A driver involved in a fatal crash on South Church Street Thursday evening has been charged with vehicular homicide, Murfreesboro police said Friday.

According to a press release from spokesperson Larry Flowers, 23-year-old Lora Allison Tenpenny was arrested and charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment and driving under the influence charges, in addition to vehicular homicide charges.

“Tenpenny was driving a 2004 Jeep Wrangler southbound in the northbound lane of South Church Street and collided head-on with a BMW,” the news release said. “The 28-year-old man driving the BMW died. The Jeep fell onto its side. Tenpenny and her 22-year-old female passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The press release did not mention the name of the deceased man.

“The crash remains under active investigation,” Flowers said.

Tenpenny was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and released about an hour and a half after posting $72,000 bail. A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court, according to the news release.

Other first responders assisted Murfreesboro police officers in the crash, Flowers said.

“An off-duty Williamson County sheriff’s deputy called 911 to report a possible drunk driver and witnessed the fatal crash,” the news release said.

Capt. Karl Daigle, safety officer/paramedic for the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department, stopped after seeing the wreck. Daigle and the deputy helped pull the victim from the BMW and began CPR. MFRD firefighters and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and took over medical duties. concern.”
