Panhandle cities introduce resolution to suspend Atmos Energy rate increase

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Some cities in the Texas Panhandle have filed a resolution to suspend the start date of Atmos Energy’s rate increase.

The cities that filed the resolution are part of the “Cities Served by Atmos Energy West Texas Coalition.”

Atmos Energy says it has requested a 10% increase in residents’ monthly bills.

“The filing reflects an average increase across the West Texas system of approximately $17 per month for a typical residential customer, and $24 per month for the typical commercial customer,” Atmos Energy said.

The City of Canyon is participating in the coalition and has filed a resolution to suspend the December 19 start date of this year. Negotiations are underway.

“We look forward to working with the Railroad Commission of Texas and all of our stakeholders throughout the process,” Atmos Energy said.

The city of Dalhart says they have no plans to file at this time.

Both the cities of Amarillo and Channing will introduce the resolution at next week’s City Council and Commissioners Court meetings.
