Heartbroken Harry Kane pens emotional message after England’s Euro 2024 final defeat

A heartbroken England captain Harry Kane has penned an emotional message following their Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain on Sunday (July 14). Kane and the Three Lions were outclassed by the Spanish team in Berlin, winning the match 2-1. It was the second consecutive Euro final England have lost after being knocked out in 2020 by Italy.

Kane has not had the best of campaigns and it was in the final that he struggled to make his mark. The England captain was replaced with more than 30 minutes to go by Ollie Watkins. Kane said he and his team were devastated not to have been able to reach the level they had worked towards during the tournament. Kane said he was proud of his team for reaching the final.

The England captain said he would have to accept defeat in the final but would get back up and fight for the England shirt again. Kane ended his message by thanking the fans for their trust and support.

“We are heartbroken that we were unable to achieve what we worked so hard for. It was a long and tough tournament and I am so proud of the boys and staff for making it to the final. In the end we fell short of our goal and we will have to live with that, but as we always do, we will pick ourselves up, pull ourselves together and be ready to fight again in an England shirt. Thank you to all the fans who believed in us and supported us all the way!” Kane said on his Instagram account.

How did the Euro 2024 final go?

The first half between England and Spain was a cautious affair before Nico Williams broke the deadlock, scoring the opening goal in the 47th minute. Cole Palmer put the Three Lions back in the game with a superb goal in the 73rd minute.

However, Spain fought back to score the winner just 4 minutes from the end of normal time and retained the title.
