Ramble On!: Anthracite Railroad Train Ready to Leave the Station

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Keep walking!

The National Museum of Industrial History, in partnership with the Reading & Northern Railroad, will host the annual Anthracite Railroad Ramble on Wednesday, July 31.

The 65-mile, daylong train ride will run from the new Nesquehoning Station in Carbon County to the Vosburg Tunnel, a 3,900-foot former Lehigh Valley Railroad tunnel north of Tunkhannock in Wyoming County that was completed in 1886.

Beginning at 9 a.m., guests will travel in two open-window Budd diesel cars.

“The journey, the destinations and the company on board will make your experience truly unique and memorable.”

Mike Piersa, NMIH Historian

Ticket sales contribute to the museum’s ongoing mission.

“We are grateful to work with the Reading & Northern Railroad on our annual Anthracite Railroad Ramble,” said NMIH historian Mike Piersa.

“The journey, the destinations and the company on board will make your experience truly unique and memorable.”

Customers can bring their own lunch or purchase a lunch box in advance to eat on the train.

Light snacks and drinks will also be available for purchase (cash only) on the train.

Space is limited. Guests must arrange their own transportation to and from Nesquehoning.
