Baylor Scheierman Shares Joe Mazzulla’s Message to Him

Before the start of the Boston Celtics’ stay in the Las Vegas Summer League, Joe Mazzulla delivered a message with three clear points intended for Baylor Scheierman, who was selected by Boston with the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Mazzulla told the rookie to let the 3-point ball fly, rebound and defend.

Scheierman checked all three boxes in his Summer League debut against the Miami Heat — who the Celtics eliminated in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs — on July 13.

First, from a three-point standpoint, he played as well as any Celtic player outside of J.D. Davison, who didn’t miss a single one of his three-pointers. Scheierman converted three of his seven three-pointers in just over 24 minutes of play.

In addition to his success on the court against the Heat, Scheierman also made his presence felt on the board. The 2.08 m point guard grabbed five rebounds, including three on the offensive board.

Finally, Scheierman was tasked with defending Heat forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., and the former said after the game that he was “glad” the Celtics gave him that defensive assignment. Jaquez finished with a game-high 29 points on 18 shots, but had as many turnovers (five) as he had assists.

After an impressive Summer League debut, Celtics fans won’t have to wait long for the 23-year-old to return to the court. Boston has a game against the Los Angeles Lakers scheduled for Monday night at 10:30 p.m. EST.
