Florida black bear caught on camera approaching North Port home

NORTH PORT, FloridaNorth Port residents are being urged to secure their trash and other items after a Florida black bear was recently spotted approaching a home.

In a social media post, the North Port Police Department said officers responded to a home along Tidwell Street in the North Port Estates area after the owner spotted a bear on his surveillance camera walking up to his house.

Police joked that in addition to locking trash cans, residents might also want to close other food sources like picnic baskets.

FWC is aware of black bear sightings in Florida.

The agency is asking residents to contact them if they see a black bear in the area.
