MOONWALKING ON WATER WITH CIRCLE LINE’S JANET AND MICHAEL JACKSON INSPIRED DANCE CRUISE

Thursday, July 11, 2024. Pier 83 Midtown — I am still in awe of the incredible Janet and Michael inspired dance cruise hosted by Circle line, New York’s most iconic boat cruise. This famous cruise line is known for hosting remarkable, high-energy and captivating summer dance cruises featuring various genres, artists and pop icons.

For 150 die-hard fans of Janet and Michael Jackson, Thursday night offered a special treat, a fabulously curated evening of their greatest hits, with classics including “Thriller,” “Smooth Criminal”, “All for you”, “Escape” And “Shout” while sipping cocktails and facing the The chance to learn classic choreography from Michael and Janet’s most popular videos and live performances. From 7:30pm to 10:00pm, the dance-inspired cruise is led by a pop choreography expert Byron Freeman of B. Free dance. Byron Freeman has been the choreographer for all of the dance cruises since the series began 3 years ago. The veteran choreographer, who has been dancing since the age of 4, brought his energy and philosophy of “freeing yourself through dance” to the cool waters of the Hudson River as the guest moonwalked during a 2.5-hour cruise.

“During my first opportunity to travel and teach in Los Angeles, I met a dance and wellness therapist who informed me that a 2024 study proved that dance was the “number one thing” to help cure depression/anxiety, more than any SSRI, (any) type of exercise, or form of medication.” Byron shares with the Knockturnal, “When I heard this, I understood why I (instinctively) chose dance as my first love. My entire life, dance has allowed me to feel truly “FREE” in every aspect of the world. From guiding me through health, community, self-discovery, life and so much more, dance has been my longest friend! Becoming a teacher, which was new to me, is another thing that dance has introduced into my life. I just celebrated my 6th anniversary on July 10th as a professional dance teacher and choreographer. My mission is to use the entertainment of the performing arts and pure self-expression to help everyone, including myself, become truly FREE!”

During the cruise, the DJ spun the tunes while Byron showed the passengers his routines. Once mastered, party-goers were free to let loose and dance on all levels of the boat and stage during the last hour of free service, and danced the rest of the night while cruising along the most beautiful views of the city at sunset!

The fun doesn’t stop there because Circle line offers even more dance cruises and you will have the chance to attend two more amazing cruises before the end of the summer. Upcoming cruises to mark your calendars include “Hip Hop Divas” in partnership with the Universal Hip-Hop Museum on August 7 and the “Yeah!” Usher Cruise on September 5. All dance cruises depart at 7:30 p.m. on the scheduled day, with tickets starting at $30. For more information about the Summer Dance Series and to purchase tickets, please visit Circle line.
