Two charged after $7,000 stolen from safe at Hendersonville home

Hendersonville police responded Thursday to a burglary alarm at a home with a broken back door and $7,000 missing from a safe inside.

Authorities said surveillance footage showed a car parked near the home at the time of the incident, and a nearby license plate reader had detected the same vehicle shortly before.

Investigators traced the vehicle to 22-year-old America Pena, a former caregiver for an elderly resident who had recently left the home. When questioned, Pena admitted her involvement in the burglary and said she allegedly committed a previous theft from the same resident during her time as a caretaker.

Further investigation led to 22-year-old Annie Saysombath, who also reportedly admitted her role in the burglary to authorities.

Both Pena and Saysombath have been charged with aggravated burglary, theft of property over $1,000, and vandalism. Pena must pay additional charges for the previous theft.
