MMA student involved in deadly 2022 crash pleads guilty

CASTINE, Maine (WABI) – A Maine Maritime Academy student who was a passenger in the Crash of 2022 who killed four students in Castine, pleaded guilty in court Friday to a misdemeanor assault.

According to the Ellsworth American, prosecutors say 22-year-old Noelle Tavares purchased the first five rounds of alcoholic drinks the night of the crash.

Tavares pleaded guilty to providing liquor to a minor.

Sentencing was deferred for two years as part of a deferred sentencing plea deal.

The agreement prohibits, among other things, the use of drugs and alcohol.

If she complies, the misdemeanor charge will be changed to a misdemeanor and she will have to pay a $500 fine.

The driver of the accident Joshua Goncalves-Radding was sentenced to 3 years in prison.
