Chilling discovery in car of Donald Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks as father breaks silence

Explosives were found in the car of the man who shot Donald Trump as the presidential candidate spoke at a rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was identified by the FBI as the man responsible for injuring Trump and killing rallygoer Corey Comperatore when he shot Trump from a nearby rooftop before being shot dead by a Secret Service sniper.

Former FBI agent Phil Andrew joined Michael Usher and Nat Barr on Sunrise to discuss the development.

Barr asked: “We’re learning more about the 20-year-old shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, including new details about the explosives in his car. How does that help us piece together what happened here?”

“There will be a thorough examination of his entire life, not just what was found at the scene. Where did he get the gun? Any kind of material support he might have gotten from someone?” Andrew said.

“They’re going to look at digital evidence… from the scene, from multiple media, from camera angles to potentially personal cell phones and the digital information on them.

“So the examination will be absolutely comprehensive, and all these little clues and details about what he brought, what his intention is, what his state of mind is, what kind of writing, communication, his whole background will be part of that examination.”

Andrew said the explosives could have been part of an earlier plot.

“It could be because of a previous plan that failed and he still has the equipment… the investigation will certainly reveal that to us. So it’s too early to say (what all this means),” Andrew said.

“He certainly planned to do this. He gathered the documents. Where he got them from, who may have supported him, who may have known, all of that will be revealed in the coming days.”

In other developments, CNN’s Mike Valerio reported that the father of the alleged shooter, named Matthew Crooks, said he was still trying to figure out “what’s going on,” but would “wait to speak to law enforcement” before speaking about his son when contacted by the outlet.

On Sunday evening (local time), Trump arrived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the Republican National Convention, where he is expected to be formally endorsed as the Republican nominee for the November presidential election.

Trump was relaxing at his Bedminster, New Jersey, estate. New footage shows the former president playing golf and looking in good spirits.

President Joe Biden called for calm and unity following the attack.

He ordered that the investigation into Trump’s attack be “thorough and expeditious” and asked the public not to “make assumptions” about the shooter’s motive.

“There is no place in America for this kind of violence, or any violence for that matter. An attempted assassination is contrary to everything we stand for…as a nation—everything,” he said.
