Six tourists, including two Americans, die in luxury hotel room, police say

Six tourists, including two Americans, have been found dead at a luxury Bangkok hotel, police said. A maid discovered the bodies in a locked suite and it appears they were poisoned. authorities said.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the five-star Grand Hyatt Erawan on Tuesday night after police were called by hotel staff. His office said the victims were three women and three men.

Two victims were U.S. citizens of Vietnamese descent, authorities said, and the others were Vietnamese citizens.

There were no signs of a struggle in the suite, where food and drinks had been ordered, police said. The food was not touched, but some people reportedly consumed tea and coffee, authorities said.

“From initial examinations of the scene, it was assumed that they had been poisoned,” Police Major General Theeradej told Thai television. There were no signs of a struggle in the aftermath and preliminary autopsies revealed no signs of injury, authorities said.

The Associated Press, Citing an unnamed police source, he said the victims all appeared to have been foaming at the mouth before they died.

The six tourists were part of a group that was supposed to leave the hotel on Tuesday, authorities said. When they failed to do so, officers were sent to check on them, police said.

Hotel employees found their bodies, along with their packed suitcases, authorities said.

The police investigation is in progress.
