New York man arrested in stolen car in Livingston, police say

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Livingston police recently arrested an out-of-state driver after he was caught driving a stolen vehicle, authorities said Tuesday.

The Livingston Police Department released the following details regarding the arrest:

“On July 15 at 11:15 a.m., Livingston Police were alerted to a motor vehicle theft that entered our jurisdiction. The suspect vehicle, a blue Subaru Impreza with New York license plates, was located on East Mount Pleasant Avenue near the intersection of Shrewsbury Drive. A vehicle stop was initiated by Livingston Police Officers and the driver of the vehicle, Walter Szwed, 67, of Staten Island, NY, was arrested and transported to headquarters to be charged.”

Szwed was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle on an arrest warrant. He was transferred to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, authorities said.
