Davante Adams’ agent sends message on Jets trade rumors

A new twist in the Davante Adams-New York Jets trade rumors this offseason.

Adams’ agents, Kenny Chapman and Frank Bauer, provided a statement to Adam Schefter ESPN’s response to viral social media business conversation.

“This is baseless speculation and Davante is expected to be with the Raiders as there have been absolutely no trade discussions – period,” they explained.

Jets, Raiders trade timeline for possible Adams deal

Active trade talks between the Jets and Raiders may not be happening right now, but they certainly were in 2023.

Schefter revealed in a column published on November 4, 2023 that the Jets attempted to steal Adams from the Raiders at the NFL trade deadline, but that Las Vegas “rejected” their advances.

A few weeks later, Schefter revealed in another column for ESPN that the Jets should “revisit” the Adams-Raiders trade conversations during the 2024 offseason.

Nothing has come of those conversations over the past two months, but one former NFL player thinks that’s about to change.

“The salary cap for the Raiders this year is $40 million (if they trade him). I hear it’s going to happen — if it happens — late August or early September,” former NFL quarterback and current radio analyst Boomer Esiason said on WFAN. “And the salary cap for him is $25 million.”

This timeline seems to run counter to what I’ve heard from the Raiders and Jets. Vegas would wave the white flag by trading Adams before the season. That doesn’t make sense. From New York’s perspective, the Jets want to see what they have internally before making that kind of move.

If a trade is to happen this year, there are some non-negotiables. Vegas has to be terrible at the trade deadline. New York has to avoid being a complete and utter disaster. If they are average or above, they can convince themselves to put the chips in the middle of the table for a big move.

If those things happen, Adams could reunite with his former quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, the chances of that trade happening are slim to none without those key pieces of the puzzle.

New trade demands could benefit Jets

On Tuesday, July 16, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk officially requested a trade, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

This doesn’t necessarily guarantee that Aiyuk will ultimately be traded, but that’s another chapter in the story. To put it in context, Deebo Samuel had already requested a trade and he still ended up signing a long-term contract to stay in the Bay.

Either way, this new update is good news for the Jets. If the 49ers part ways with Aiyuk, their team will be weaker.

It’s unlikely they’ll be able to pull off a player-for-player trade. That means it would be built around future draft picks, which doesn’t help right now. The Jets are scheduled to play the 49ers on Monday Night Football to kick off the season.

If they don’t trade him, Aiyuk has an outside chance of doing so and if he’s unavailable or compromised in any way for the season opener, that helps the Jets as well.

The Greens and Whites want chaos before the start of the season.
