4-Star Center Xavion Staton 2025 Discusses BYU Offer, Next Steps

The recruiting calendar for 2025 recruits (rising seniors) is in full swing right now, with tours taking place all over the country. Many recruits are trimming their lists before beginning fall visits and signing in November.

One of BYU’s recent offerees is 4-star big man Xavion Staton, who is expected to be a 2025 prospect. The 6-foot-4 Las Vegas native is ranked among the top 25 prospects in the 2025 class by 247 Sports and On3. BYU officially offered Xavion last week and has been keeping tabs on him for some time.

I spoke to Xavion about the offer and the next steps in his recruitment.

“Coach Young reached out to my mom,” Xavion told me. “He saw me play in Arizona, liked my game, and thought I would be a good fit. My plan is to narrow it down to 5 or 6 favorite schools after Indy this weekend. Plan to visit those schools in the next few months and then announce my choice. I don’t want to drag out my decision any longer than necessary. I figure when I know, I’ll know. BYU is close to home, which is definitely a plus!”

BYU has made Xavion a top priority for the 2025 class, and based on conversations I’ve had, I expect BYU to be in Xavion’s top 5-6 list and among the top schools he’s considering. Being close to home is important to him, and the 5.5 hour drive from Las Vegas to Provo would allow his family to see him regularly. Xavion has received offers from all over, including Kansas, Arizona, Auburn, Texas, Stanford, Ohio State, UNLV, and several others.

One scout I spoke with compared him to DeAndre Jordan with his ability to run around the basket, play pick-and-rolls and protect the basket. Kevin Young has said multiple times that he wants five runners around the basket, and Xavion fits that profile perfectly.

AJ Dybantsa is the No. 1 target in this class and BYU is well-positioned to take him, but I could make the argument that Xavion is the No. 2 on BYU’s board. Xavion has NBA potential with his size and athleticism and has the potential to be a dominant center during his time in college.
