Free lifesaving app offered by Norberg Memorial Home – Shaw Local

As part of its extensive online resources, Norberg Memorial Home is proud to offer Vital ICE, a life-saving initiative that is accessible to the public. “JD and I are thrilled to provide this incredible service to our community for free,” said Janice Smallwood, co-owner of Norberg Memorial Home with her husband, JD. “Anyone with a smartphone can access this valuable app, no need to be our customer. When we launched the program, we had less than 100 users…now we have over 4,300!”

Vital ICE is a premier “In Case of Emergency” (ICE) public safety app designed to save lives by storing users’ medical information, emergency contacts, and other crucial details. This information is easily accessible to EMS and other first responders when the patient is unable to communicate. Additionally, it acts as a back-up call system as long as your phone is with you. First responders can also send emergency communications and alerts to local users, providing critical local emergency instructions when needed. The app is free to download on any smartphone, computer, or iPad.

“Vital ICE allows community members to list vital information such as blood type, allergies, medical history, medications and ICE contacts,” Janice explained. “Users can also include information about their dependents if they choose.” The app provides first aid protocols for 16 common emergencies in case EMS personnel are not present.

The Vital ICE app also offers other interesting features, including the ability to call 911 and sound an alarm from the app, allowing first responders to locate the patient more quickly. Users’ medical information can be emailed to any address, making it easier to communicate with emergency services. Additionally, the app stores photos of insurance cards, making them easy for medical personnel to access.
