Local Democrats hope to keep their message alive with voters during the Republican National Convention

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Local Democratic leaders are sharing their message in hopes of not losing their voices during the Republican National Convention.

“If you look at what Democrats are doing across the state in general, we’re doing pretty well,” said DNC delegate Amaad Rivera-Wagner. “The fact that some issues are about one race doesn’t reflect the broader dynamic. What people think is that Democrats are investing in and supporting people, not just Democrats. People who are Republicans, people of color, people who don’t vote. The policies that we’re trying to implement benefit everyone.”

On Wednesday, the Brown County Democratic Party hosted a conference where community members and local leaders discussed the Project 2025 agenda and the upcoming election.

Amaad Rivera-Wagner, who is running for Wisconsin State Assembly, stressed that he wants voters to understand that there is no place for violence or hate crimes in politics.

“We want to condemn this kind of hateful speech,” he said. “Democracy doesn’t require us to be mean to each other; it allows us to disagree, and that’s why it’s been unfortunately asymmetrical. Do I think there’s always room for improvement on all sides? Absolutely, but in this race, right now, Democrats have, I think, put democracy at the center of their agenda in a very thoughtful way, and I think we can all appreciate that.”

In his final message, he says that no matter what your position is, age should not be the determining factor in values.

“It really comes down to what people do,” Amaad said. “No matter their age, where they come from, what language they speak, who they love, how they approach the world, you have to make sure the right people can do the right work.”
