Community vigil honors life of 15-year-old Bingham High School student

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – Just days after 15-year-old Logan Hansen was killed in a house explosion in South Jordan, hundreds of people gathered to remember and honor his life.

Students, friends, family and loved ones circled the “B” outside Bingham High School Friday evening

With candles in hand, many tears were shed as stories were shared.

“He was a great, great kid, I love him very much,” said Josh Hansen, Logan’s father. “I am very honored that you all came here tonight to help me with my son.”

Logan’s two sisters, Dakota and Jersey, also spoke to the crowd, emotionally describing what their brother meant to them.

“I just want to say that I love my brother, and that he died a hero,” Dakota said.

Through the tears there were some lighter moments.

“He used to send me random videos and they were so funny, but they were so stupid and made no sense. I’m really going to miss them,” Jersey said.

Joaquin Hernandez shared some of the best memories he had with his friend Logan. That included the first time they met.

“I met Logan in sixth grade and I met him because of a staring contest. It doesn’t make sense, but it does to us,” Hernandez said.

While talking about the times they played Minecraft together, Hernandez also talked about the impact Logan had on his life.

“He was always there when I was having a hard time, he listened to me,” Hernandez said.

Logan’s older brother, Jordan Hansen, talked about the excitement of learning he would be a big brother when Logan was born.

“It was a privilege and an honor to grow up with him and be like a big brother to him,” Jordan said.

Jordan even shared the pranks he pulled on his younger brother.

“One time we had a staircase, and I put hangers in his shirt while he was wearing it, and I hung him on the stairs and he laughed about it,” Jordan said.

During the wake, attendees were able to write down fond memories they shared with Logan.

When the event ended, a moment of silence was held. Blue glow sticks and mobile phones, some of which also radiated blue light, were held in the air. We’re told that blue was Logan’s favorite color.

“I’m going to miss him so much, I love you Logan,” Josh said.

Local fire investigators arrived on Thursday determined the cause of the house explosion is said to have been the result of a natural gas leak.

The National Transportation Safety Board is also investigating the incident.

A team of NTSB investigators is on the scene and is expected to arrive Saturday.
