Akshay Kumar suffers Rs 1,000 crore loss, industry in shock: Reports

Bombay: Akshay Kumar, known as the ‘Khiladi of Bollywood’, was once a hit machine in the film industry. He gave us many hit films and gained a huge fan following. But recently, his box office magic seems to have faded and he has been recording several failures in a row.

Akshay Kumar became famous for his action-packed roles and martial arts skills. His films, especially those titled ‘Khiladi’, were huge hits. He then proved his versatility by doing comedies, dramas and films with a social message. His consistent success made him one of the biggest stars of Bollywood, often compared to the Khans.

The unexpected fall

However, post the pandemic, things have changed drastically for Akshay. He has now made his 13th flop with the film ‘Sarfira’. Other disappointing films include ‘Bell Bottom’, ‘Laxmmi’, ‘Cuttputtli’, ‘Atrangi Re’, ‘Bachchan Paanday’, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Raksha Bandhan’, ‘Ram Setu’, ‘Selfie’, ‘Mission Ranigunj’ and ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’.

These films have collectively lost over 1,000 crores, with ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ alone losing 250 crores and ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ 150 crores, as per latest reports.

There are several reasons for this decline. Akshay seems to be making films too quickly, perhaps for the big money he gets, without putting in the necessary effort and passion. His performances have been criticised for their lack of energy, which has caused a disconnect with the audience. Also, his outspoken support for a political party may have put off some fans.

Sarfira: the latest flop

“Sarfira” is the latest flop, with a first-day gross of just $2.25 million. For a star like Akshay, these numbers are disappointing and raise questions about his current status in the industry.

Despite the recent setbacks, Akshay Kumar is not giving up. He is all set to release a new film, ‘Khel Khel Mein’, a remake of an already made Malayalam Spanish film titled ’12th Man’, starring Mohan Lal in the lead role. The promotion will begin soon and the film is slated to release on August 15.
