2 shots fired near DC elementary school, police investigating

A 16-year-old died after a shooting in Woodland’s Ward 8 neighborhood on Friday afternoon, according to D.C. police.

A man was also taken to hospital in an unknown condition.

Police said they responded to the 2700 block of Langston Place, SE for reports of gunshots when they were approached by a man who had been shot. While rendering aid to the man, police heard more gunshots and located a 16-year-old who had been shot a block away at 2800 Langston Place, SE.

Both victims were taken to hospital and despite life-saving measures, police said the 16-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot, wearing all black, a hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on the back, and armed with a handgun, police said.

The following roads are closed in the area due to an active investigation: 2700-2800 blocks Langston Pl SE between Reynolds Place and Ainger Place, SE.
