Clippers president breaks silence on Russell Westbrook trade

Clippers president breaks silence on Russell Westbrook trade

After two years of loyal service, the Los Angeles Clippers have officially traded Russell Westbrook. It was clear that Westbrook wanted to be in Los Angeles with the Clippers, but his integration into the franchise has been difficult since his arrival.

The Clippers officially announced today that they have traded Russell Westbrook for Kris Dunn and Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank issued a statement on the trade.

“Russ is an all-time great and we were fortunate to have him on board,” Frank said. “He brought energy and intensity to the group. We look forward to seeing him continue his illustrious career.”

In two seasons with the Clippers, Russell Westbrook averaged 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.1 steals on 46 made shots, 30 assists and 68 made shots. In 89 games with the team, he started only 32 of them, while playing an average of 24.2 minutes per game. At first, Westbrook’s form was a little clearer in the 2022-23 NBA season, but things got a lot more complicated when the Clippers traded James Harden.

Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank also made a statement on the acquisition of Kris Dunn.

“Kris is a tough defender, a connector on offense and a great teammate,” Frank said. “He will help us improve our defense and balance our back line.”

After losing Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Mason Plumlee and Daniel Theis, the LA Clippers are hoping to become a completely different team next season.
