Zach Edey injury update: Grizzlies rookie headed to locker room after awkwardly twisting ankle

Zach Edey was perhaps the most polarizing player in the 2024 NBA Draft, after Bronny James.

The Purdue big man’s dominance in college, coupled with his size and size, had scouts wondering if he could approach that level of production in the NBA.

The Grizzlies selected the 7-foot-4, 300-pound center with the ninth overall pick in what some thought was a risky pick, but he has impressed so far in limited time against Summer League competition in Las Vegas.

The 22-year-old rookie has already missed some time, but will he be out for an extended period after his recent injury against the Pelicans?

Here’s the latest on Edey’s injury status.

Zach Edey Injury Update

Edey twisted his ankle after landing on a New Orleans player’s foot. He fell to the ground and immediately went to the locker room.

The incident happened in the second quarter and Edey was ruled out for the remainder of the match.

He returned to the bench in the second half with his ankle wrapped in ice.

Edey suffered an ankle injury earlier in his Summer League campaign, which limited him to just one game prior to Thursday’s matchup. He missed the Grizzlies’ previous five games before returning on July 18.

The most recent ankle injury is not a re-aggravation of the initial injury. Edey injured his left ankle in his Summer League debut and injured his right ankle in the most recent game.
