‘Hazardous’ fireworks waste recovered from Marske beach

The law does not allow fireworks to be lit off end up on the street or in other public places, external.

But photos taken by Ms Bell show they had been used on the beach, with some canisters left where they were lit.

Other animals could be affected and she had seen seagulls picking through the rubble, she said.

“All these fireworks have to land somewhere,” she said.

The noise they make can also disturb nesting geese and seals, causing them to abandon their young, she added.

Ms Bell is calling on people to consider alternatives.

“Even just using quiet devices can make a big difference,” she said.

‘You could even go to drones.

“I know it’s an expensive option, but it’s an option out there.”
