Young CEO Reveals Insane Reason Why He Was Denied an Apartment

Melbourne CEO Kyle Hunt has revealed one real estate agent’s experience that left him feeling “terrible” and shocked.

Hunt, 25, has a busy schedule running three businesses and was recently looking for a new rental property.

The 25-year-old said it was difficult to find a nice place that was also close to work.

So he was all excited when he contacted a real estate agent to privately inspect a place that looked good.

Hunt said the officer on the phone seemed completely normal, but when he arrived to view the property, the atmosphere was immediately gone.

“His behavior changed completely when he saw me,” he shared in a TikTok video to his followers of $159,000.

Hunt said the officer was acting a little strange, but the place he showed himself around was exactly what he wanted.

“I thought he was having a bad day. He didn’t show us any rooms,” he told news.com.au.

“The place was nice and really suited me well. It was really close to work.”

Hunt said the officer then asked him if he had a partner, which he said was a bit random.

“I said ‘no,’ and he said ‘oh,’” he explained.

The home was also intended to be delivered fully furnished and when he started asking the agent what was and was not included with the property, the man reportedly claimed that this was “not his job”.

Hunt, who had gone to inspect the property with a friend, said they both laughed at the officer’s strange behavior.

However, he was willing to overlook the agent’s distant behavior because he really wanted the rental.

He asked the real estate agent to text him a link that would allow him to apply online and hopefully secure the property.

“Two days passed and I didn’t get a link to apply,” he said.

Hunt was so excited about the property that he decided to call the real estate agent’s office and express his interest again.

When the 25-year-old asked why he hadn’t heard from the officer, the man’s response was disturbing.

“He said, ‘Sorry, I shouldn’t have let you come see because of your age and you’re single,’” he said.

“He said, ‘we wanted attractive candidates to tour the place.’ I was like, ‘what the hell?’”

According to the Tenants’ Association, it is against the law to discriminate against tenants because of their race, sexual orientation, gender, disability, marital status or age.

The Tenants’ Association outlines that it is unlawful for a landlord or real estate agent to discriminate against you when applying for a rental property.

Discrimination may occur if you refuse to consider your application, if you are lower on a list of applicants, or if you refuse to rent the property to you for any of the reasons stated above.

Hunt was in disbelief.

After hanging up on the officer, he called the office back and asked to speak to someone else.

He thought this agent was rogue and that someone else in the company would want to help him.

“They said I was blacklisted,” he said.

“I was super nice. They said, ‘It’s because of your age and because you’re single, so we can’t offer you any of our properties,'” he claimed.

Hunt said he has been told that the investors they are dealing with are after desirable candidates who are “older” and have families.

“Obviously I felt terrible. I think it took me three months to find a place that suited me personally,” he said.

Hunt said the behavior wasn’t “nice,” but luckily he found another officer shortly afterward and found a “great” apartment.

The 25-year-old put the whole experience down to being ‘cooked’ and joked online that he never wanted to move again.

Hunt shared the story online and young people on TikTok quickly shared their thoughts on it.

“Imagine if you had a dog! It’s going to get worse,” one person warned.

“I felt like I was the dog,” Hunt replied.

“That’s out of the question,” another commented, and Hunt responded that he felt like he was “screwed hard.”

“The number of times this has happened to me,” another complained.

“That’s ridiculous,” one person wrote.

“Rejection is diversion,” said another.
