Washington home raid leads to arrest in connection with shooting two weeks ago

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina man is behind bars after officers say a raid on a Washington home linked him to a shooting that happened more than two weeks ago.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office said today they concluded their investigation into the Oct. 9 shooting on Jimmy Lane in Washington after raiding a home on Marva Drive and arresting Zyere Godley.

The 19-year-old Washington man was charged with discharging a weapon onto occupied property, felony conspiracy and damaging personal property.

Deputies say Godley has been denied bond due to the charges and is in the Pitt County Jail.

However, Godley was not the only man arrested after the raid. Deputies say they arrested 23-year-old Dominic Maurizzio from the searched home on a charge of intent to sell/deliver marijuana.

Deputies say Maurizzio was initially denied bond due to pending charges for an unrelated 2022 shooting in Wake County. However, he was granted a $5,000 bond this morning. Deputies say he remains in the Pitt County Jail because he failed to post bond.

According to deputies, their raid turned up several guns, ammunition, many gun parts and 35.3 grams of marijuana.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says more charges are expected.
