Goods train derails in Amroha, UP, 15 trains cancelled or diverted

Amroha (Top):

Twelve carriages of a Delhi-bound goods train derailed near Amroha railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening, authorities said.

No one was injured in the accident, which comes three days after eight carriages of an express passenger train derailed in Gonda district, killing four passengers and injuring 31.

Senior Deputy Commercial Manager of Moradabad Division Aditya Gupta said, “12 coaches of a goods train derailed just after crossing Amroha station around 5 pm.”

He said no one was injured in the accident.

The Northern Railway CPRO said the accident occurred at Amroha station on the Ghaziabad-Moradabad section, disrupting train traffic on the route.

Fifteen trains were diverted or cancelled, railway sources said.

“Meanwhile, trains on this route are being diverted via Ghaziabad, Hapur and Gajraula,” Mr Gupta said.

He said the goods train “was coming from Uttarakhand and was heading towards Delhi, and the contents of the derailed coaches are not known”.

Work to restore train traffic on the stretch is underway and is expected to be completed by Sunday morning, officials said.
