Howard County police recover stolen tools worth up to $5 million

Columbia, MD – Howard County Police have successfully recovered 18,600 stolen construction tools in what is believed to be one of the most significant theft cases in the region’s recent history. The estimated value of these tools is between $3 and $5 million.

Authorities determined the tools were stolen from several stores, businesses, vehicles, homes and construction sites, primarily in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The stolen items were largely stored in Howard County storage units and are believed to have been sold in various ways at different locations.

Police have identified 155 victims and are in the process of returning the stolen items to them. Following the investigation, Jose Aceves, 52, of Jessup, was charged with theft.

The remaining unsalvaged tools will be sold at auction on November 16. More details about the auction can be found online.
