Scottish flight aborted on runway moments before takeoff due to ‘technical problem’

A Scottish flight was cancelled on the runway moments before take-off.

Passengers on board the easyJet plane were asked to disembark at Edinburgh Airport as the plane prepared to fly to Reykjavik in Iceland on Saturday morning. The holidaymakers were escorted off the plane after flight EZY3315 was cancelled due to a “technical issue” on board which could not be resolved.

A passenger reported that the flight was about to take off and had positioned itself on the runway before having to return to the cockpit. An update on the easyJet website confirms that the cancellation took place later.

The budget airline said the safety of its crew and passengers was its “top priority” and that the decision was made as the issue could not be resolved immediately. Passengers were reportedly given the option to change flights for free, request a refund or choose a voucher worth the full value of their ticket.

As reported in Edinburgh Live, an update on the airline’s website reads: “We are sorry that your flight has been cancelled. This is because your safety and that of our crew is our top priority and a technical issue with the aircraft could not be resolved.

“We understand this is disappointing news and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to make new plans. So here’s everything you need to know about what to do next.”

Information on the Reykjavik Airport arrivals page also confirms that the flight has been cancelled. It is unclear whether it has been rescheduled.

An easyJet spokesperson said: We can confirm that flight EZY3315 from Edinburgh to Keflavik International Airport has been cancelled due to a technical issue. We have provided all affected passengers with information via our mobile app and online with options to transfer to an alternative flight or receive a full refund and book hotel accommodation and meals as required.
