The strongest student-athletes meet to reach the podium

Five days of pure strength and focus begin in Estonia with the FISU World University Powerlifting Championship Tartu 2024 (July 23-27).

The University of Tartu gymnasium is ready to cover its floors and bars with talcum powder or chalk as the best student powerlifting athletes from 22 countries gather in Estonia to compare not only strength and endurance but also technique.

Known as the student capital of Estonia, Tartu is the Cultural Capital of Europe 2024. The oldest city in the Baltic States is preparing to welcome the best young powerlifting student athletes for the sport’s first-ever FISU World University Championship.

Preparation and focus are essential before moving on to strength and technique.

The categories

As in many other sports, athletes are divided by gender and weight. After that, three seems to be the magic number: three different disciplines (squat, bench press and deadlift), three attempts at maximum weight on each movement and… three referees who validate the technique of each movement.

The teams

209 athletes from 22 teams and three continents will compete in Tartu.

Austria Belgium
Bulgaria Croatia
Czech Republic Estonia
Finland France
Japan Latvia
Lithuania Mexico
The Netherlands Poland
