Senate to consider bills to protect children and teens online

Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate will consider a bill this week aimed at protecting children from harmful online content, advancing what could be the first sweeping new regulation of the tech industry in decades. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is expected to announce Tuesday that he will introduce the bipartisan bill to the Senate floor, hoping to pass it before the chamber goes on recess in August. The bill had stalled for months, even though more than two-thirds of the Senate signed on to support it and families of children who have suffered online harm have advocated for its passage.
