As reported by AP At the time, the singer was on Long Island, New York, when he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on June 18. According to a statement from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Timberlake was scheduled to be arraigned in Sag Harbor, on the eastern tip of Long Island.

After a subsequent court appearance, the “Rock Your Body” star was released without bail and was only charged with “a single count” of DUI because he “refused a breathalyzer test” when he was arrested.

Timberlake’s attorney Ed Burke Jr., who previously vowed to “vigorously” defend him as false allegations of drug use circulated on social media, reiterated that Timberlake was not intoxicated during a hearing in the DWI case yesterday (July 26).

“He was not drunk. I repeat. Justin Timberlake was not drunk,” he said, according to The Independent“And we are confident that this charge, this criminal charge, will be dropped.”

Burke also added that responding officers “made a number of very significant mistakes in this case” and that Timberlake “cooperated fully”: “From the second he was ordered out of his car to the second he was charged.”

He stressed that police, “like all of us, make mistakes.” Timberlake was not present at the hearing related to his arrest, but he first addressed the issue after returning to Chicago for a tour last month, saying it had been a “tough week.”

During his concert, he thanked his fans for their support, saying: “We’ve been through the ups and downs, the lefts and the rights together. It’s been a tough week, but you’re here and I’m here, and nothing can change this moment right now.”

He continued before wiping a tear from her cheek, “I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you keep loving me and I love you back.”
