Peter Obi: We don’t need political buffoons, money mongers who worship their stomachs

The Labour Party has said Kenneth Okonkwo’s attack on its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was unfortunate and aimed at attracting attention, adding that the party did not need a political figure like him.

Recall that Okonkwo, a leader of the LP, said over the weekend that he no longer had confidence in Obi’s ability to build a political platform capable of winning elections.

He said Obi has proven to his supporters that even if they vote for him, he does not have what it takes to get the mandate.

The LP leader added that the recent crisis within the party prompted him to take the decision to chart a new course for my political journey.

Reacting to Okonkwo’s letter, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday that his resignation did not come as a surprise to them.

Ifoh added that the party considered Okonkwo’s criticism of Obi as regrettable, adding that no negative criticism of Obi would stop it.

“Kenneth Okonkwo’s resignation from the Labour Party did not come as a surprise to us. We also believe that his attack on the party leader, Peter Obi, is rather regrettable,” the statement read.

“However, we will continue not to respond to him, because we understand that his need for attention knows no bounds.

“Recently, a former director general of the party’s presidential campaign organization resigned and joined the APC.

“Just last week, a former deputy director general of the presidential campaign organization also resigned and joined the APC.

“Today, it is the turn of Mr. Okonkwo, a former member of the APC, who clandestinely entered the presidential campaign, and his destination is already known to us.

“It goes without saying that Nigeria does not need political clowns and money mongers whose stomach is their god.

“We also wish to point out here that the party is aware of the existence of some other people who are placed as moles, who are currently causing crises within the party and who have tried unsuccessfully to hijack the party for the benefit of their paymasters.

“We urge them to act quickly and do what is necessary before they are denounced and expelled from the party.”

“The coordinated attacks from some quarters will not diminish the confidence that Nigerians, especially the obedient and youth of Nigeria, have in him.

“We know that with him, a new Nigeria will be possible. Nigerians spoke loudly in 2023, and they will speak even louder in 2027.”
