Aerosmith Announces Retirement From Touring After 50 Years

In 1970, Boston musicians Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Ray Tabano, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramer came together to form the iconic rock band Aerosmith. The band rose to fame in the mid-1970s and began touring around the world with Tyler at the helm as lead singer. But after more than five decades on the road, Aerosmith retired from touring for good.

The announcement comes nearly a year after Tyler fractured his larynx last September. That was shortly after the start of the Peace Out farewell tour, which was set to end in 2025. Following the injury, the band postponed several dates while Tyler worked on his recovery.

Unfortunately, the injuries were so serious that the band withdrew from touring altogether.

“It was in 1970 that a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith,” the band wrote on social media. “Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark has been ignited and burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we have made rock ‘n’ roll history. It has been the honor of our lives to have our music be a part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour, and in grand and private moments, you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives. We have always wanted to blow you away in your performances.”

“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other,” the statement continued. “He has spent months working tirelessly to get his voice back to where it was before his injury. We have seen him struggle despite having the best medical team by his side.”

“Unfortunately, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible,” the band lamented. “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision as a band of brothers to retire from the touring scene. We are grateful beyond words to everyone who was motivated to hit the road with us one last time. We are grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team, and the thousands of talented individuals who have made our historic tours possible.”

Still, they hope their memory will live on through the art they created. “Play our music loud, now and always. Keep dreaming,” they concluded. “You made our dreams come true.”
