CNN Data Reporter Sees How Trump Could Get His ‘Great White Whale’ This Election

CNN‘s senior political data reporter Harry Enten said that on Friday Donald Trump “may finally get its great white whale” in this year’s election.

“He could win the popular vote, which of course he would very much like to do,” said Enten, who added that the GOP nominee is “very capable” of doing so after losing the popular vote in 2016 and 2020 . .

Grafting, in a segment with CNN‘s John Berman, pointed to national polls of registered and likely voters to show Trump first Kamala Harris while others show the vice president leads the GOP nominee.

The two are bound among registered and likely voters in a recent New York Times poll.

Trump could also make “history” if he wins the popular vote, as the last Republican candidate to do so was President George Bush in 2004, Enten said.

His father, President George HW Bush, was the last Republican candidate before him to win the popular vote in 1988.

Enten later highlighted a Friday poll total that had Harris one point ahead of Trump.

Both Hillary Clinton and President Joe Biden According to Enten’s figure, they did several points better at the same point in their respective elections.

“The fact that Donald Trump has a legitimate chance of winning the popular vote is something that I think a lot of people, including in my field, really didn’t think could possibly happen when Donald Trump ran the election last time.” , says Enten. said.

He continued by pointing to a “potentially good sign.” Democrats as the former president is doing “extremely well” in polls in California, Florida, New York and Texas.

“So Donald Trump may end up winning in the national popular polls, but in reality he is wasting votes, which could actually lead to a case where Kamala Harris could sneak past the Electoral College by overwhelming the Great Lake battleground states, which are far too close to call at this point,” he said.

There is a real chance that Trump will get his great white whale: winning the popular vote. Polls show the race is basically even nationally, with Trump running well ahead of where he voted in 2016 or 2020.
