Delhi: 17-year-old JEE aspirant dies by suicide, leaves note for parents – India News

A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar under study pressure. She took this step after failing to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to the country’s top engineering colleges, the police statement said on Saturday.

Furthermore, she also left a suicide note asking her parents to forgive her as she was not eligible to crack JEE.

“Yesterday at 11:25 am, Jamia Nagar PS received a PCR call about a 17-year-old girl jumping from the roof of a seventh floor building in Okhla Main market. She had recently completed her 12th grade and was preparing for the JEE. A suicide note was found, which cited study pressure and unfulfilled expectations as reasons for her actions. Investigations under 194 BNSS are currently underway,” Delhi Police said.

The incident took place just three days after a second-year master’s student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi reportedly died by suicide late on Tuesday night. Police indicated that the student, who was from Jharkhand, had visited the IIT Hospital earlier that day and had undergone psychiatric treatment.

A senior police officer confirmed that a call regarding the incident was received at 11pm on Tuesday. The mobile crime team inspected the hostel room but found no suicide note. “According to the victim’s medical records, he was undergoing psychiatric care and had been at the IIT hospital that morning,” the officer noted, adding that the student had an appointment scheduled with his psychiatrist for October 29.
