Woman admits she went home, showered, ate and wore homeowner’s clothes after car accident

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Sunday morning, a Nashville homeowner was shocked to discover someone had entered her home, eaten her food and even ransacked her drawers.

According to an arrest affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, officers were called to investigate a possible burglary at 1280 Old Hickory Blvd. on Sunday and spoke with the homeowner.

The woman said she noticed someone had opened the door of her car, which was parked in the garage, and then went inside to see that several food items had been taken from her refrigerator and pantry and left on the counter, according to the affidavit.

The officers searched her home and found no one, but upon searching the property they discovered the second home was locked, according to their report. The woman told officers it must be empty and unlocked, the affidavit said.

When they entered, officers found 41-year-old Laquinta Thomas sleeping on the couch and took her into custody.

Thomas said she was involved in a car accident the night before and walked away before officers arrived on the scene, the affidavit said. After assuming no one lived in the house because the door was unlocked, Thomas told officers she took a shower, ate food from the main house and put on clothes she had taken from the house.

The officers reported finding a bag near the door containing the homeowner’s belongings, including a towel. The woman told officers she was aware of a car accident that occurred in front of her home in the early morning hours.

Thomas was booked Sunday afternoon and charged with aggravated burglary.
