Luton brothers charged after machete attack on police officer

Two teenage brothers have been charged with attempted murder after an off-duty police officer was attacked with a machete.

The Metropolitan Police officer was stabbed in Luton city center at 1.10pm GMT on Saturday 2 November.

Hannan Mahmood, 19, and Humar Mahmood, 18, both of Belmont Road, Luton, were arrested on Friday.

They were charged in connection with the attack and a robbery and were remanded in custody when they appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court last weekend.

The brothers have also been charged with wounding with intent, possession of a bladed article in a public place, theft and dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for information and images of the incident, which took place in George Street, outside Luton Point shopping centre.
