Zillow reveals 5 home trends for 2025

Zillow has released its five consumer home trends in 2025.

The online real estate marketplace used data and compiled a list of trends by reviewing hundreds of home features and design styles in for-sale listings in 2024, then identifying the keywords that routinely pop up compared to 2023. Zillow noted that certain features in a growing group occurrence. number of listings, and it is a sign that the homes are wanted and desirable to a buyer.

Here’s what you need to know about home furnishing trends.

Zillow’s Five Home Trends for 2025

The five home trends are electric features, cozy atmosphere, old-fashioned comeback, climate resilience and spa-inspired wet rooms.

Electrical functions

Home buyers are looking for homes with sustainable and environmentally friendly features.

According to ZillowWhole-home battery listings have increased 62% since 2023. Whole-house batteries store excess energy from solar panels and act as a generator during a power outage or when the sun isn’t shining. Meanwhile, solar panels appear 18% more often in for-sale listings on Zillow.

Additionally, electric vehicle chargers are now attractive in 34% more for-sale listings on Zillow compared to 2023, while induction cooktop listings are up 5%.

Cozy atmosphere

Zillow explains in a release that the number of homes listing “cozy” increased by 35% compared to 2023, indicating homebuyers are opting for smaller, cozier homes that are affordable and durable over larger homes with open floor plans and extra space. Smaller, cozier, color-saturated rooms that serve a specific purpose, such as dens and dining rooms.

A comeback from the old world

Nostalgia is a growing trend, appearing in 14% more listings than in 2023, while “vintage” listings are up 9%, Zillow noted.

Home libraries are on the rise, appearing 22% more often in Zillow listings. A second kitchen, or “back kitchen,” where hosts can hide the work of meal preparation and cleanup, will appear in 8% more listings this year than in 2023.

Climate resilience

Home sellers are starting to show features that provide a level of protection against climate-related disasters, and buyers are looking for them. About 86% of home buyers tell Zillow that it is important to them that a home has at least one climate-resilient feature.

Zillow reports that the number of for-sale listings on its website notes that flood defenses are up 22% compared to 2023, “seismic retrofitting,” or rebuilding a structure with new parts, is up 20%, and drought-resistant lawns have increased. 14% compared to last year.

Spa-inspired wet rooms

According to Zillow, spa-inspired wet rooms, typically found in luxury hotels, are the latest upgrades to appear in homes. A wet room is a combination of a shower and bath in a watertight space without a shower edge or partition. Wet rooms appear 19% more often in Zillow listings.
