23-year-old man beheads young wife in shed behind parents’ home | United States | News

A 23-year-old Texas man has been sentenced to a harsh 40-year prison sentence for the gruesome murder and beheading of his wife shortly after their wedding. Jared James Dicus has openly admitted to the ruthless murder of his 21-year-old wife, Anggy Diaz, in January 2023.

In an alarming turn of events, the Waller County Sheriff’s Office revealed that it was Dicus’ own parents who made a panicked call around 4:35 p.m. on January 11, 2023, alerting authorities of a possible death on their premises. The residence in question was a cabin located behind the family’s home on Oak Hollow Blvd., located near Magnolia and about 60 miles northwest of downtown Houston — where the newlyweds lived.

Upon entering the premises, law enforcement discovered Diaz’s decapitated body. It appeared that Dicus and Diaz, who shared the cabin, had their home tarnished with blood stains, a gory detail reported by Law and Crime.

In a more chilling discovery, Diaz was found lying next to the bed in a pool of blood, having suffered multiple stab wounds to the back, court documents detail. The documents also shockingly note that “what appeared to be the victim’s head was in the shower,” the Mirror US reports.

Police quickly apprehended Dicus, who admitted to investigators during questioning that he was indeed responsible for the savage crime. While the precise motive for the murder remains unknown, police have indicated that previous calls to the residence were related to domestic disputes, as noted by Mirror US.

Sean G. Whittmore, the Waller County criminal prosecutor, said speculation about possible mental health issues was raised early in the court process.

Despite this, a psychiatrist evaluated Dicus and found him fit to stand trial.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Dicus does not have the right to appeal the verdict or present an insanity defense, Whitmore confirmed. The Diaz family has expressed approval of the plea agreement, which ensures Dicus will not be eligible for parole until 2043.

“Waller County does not tolerate domestic violence. Heinous crimes like this will not go unanswered, we will seek justice for victims of domestic violence and send a message to perpetrators that we stand up for our victims here,” Whitmore said Wednesday.

Those who knew her fondly remember Diaz’s exuberant spirit. “She was a very smart girl, full of energy, never negative,” her employer Veronica Jimenez recalled in an interview with KPRC.

“She had so many goals in life.”

Her uncle Irvin Orellana, who was previously her legal guardian, honored her memory by calling her “a light to our family” on a GoFundMe page set up in her memory. “Always with a smile and a cheerful personality. Her absence in our lives will be forever felt,” he wrote.

The crowdfunding initiative raised the funds needed to repatriate his remains to Nicaragua.
