BTS member Min Yoongi, better known as Suga, 31, was questioned for driving an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol, police said on Wednesday (August 7).

He was charged with violating the Highway Code, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Yongsan Police Station in Seoul said they found the rapper lying motionless on the ground alone on the streets of Hannam neighborhood in Yongsan District the previous night.

A nearby police officer approached to help him. He noticed the smell of alcohol and then handed him over to the nearby police station.

Police breathalyzer tests revealed that his blood alcohol level was over 0.08 percent, warranting the revocation of his driving license.

He was allowed to return home after the police investigation was completed.

The translated statement is as follows:

“We apologize for the accident involving BTS member Suga’s electric scooter.

On Tuesday night (August 6), Suga used an electric scooter while wearing a helmet to return home after drinking alcohol.

After driving about 500 meters, he fell while parking and was given a ticket and had his license revoked following a sobriety test conducted by nearby police officers. The incident did not result in any personal injury or property damage and he returned home under police escort.

We apologize for the disappointment this artist’s inappropriate behavior has caused many of you. As a social worker, he will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action by his employer for his behavior.

We will be more vigilant to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Suga himself also apologized on fan platform Weverse on August 7.

The statement says:

“Hello, this is Suga.

It is with a heavy heart and full of apologies that I must come to you with such disappointment.

After drinking at dinner last night, I rode my electric scooter home. I broke the traffic rules because I thought it was a short distance and didn’t realize that I wasn’t allowed to ride the scooter while drunk. As I was parking my electric scooter in front of my gate, I fell off alone.

A police officer was nearby and, following a breathalyzer test, my license was revoked and I was fined. No one was injured or any facilities damaged during this process. I bow to everyone in apology, because this is my responsibility and there is no room for excuses.

I apologize to all those who were hurt by my reckless and wrong actions and I will be more careful in my actions to avoid such incidents in the future.”

The artist has been a social service officer since March, an alternative form of military service in South Korea, and is due to be released in June 2025.
