Guwahati’s water supply plant at Satpukhuri will suspend service for two days | Guwahati News

No water from Satpukuri factory for 2 days

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation‘s (GMC) Satpukhuri water supply plant will suspend distribution for two days from Tuesday, affecting 16 places due to essential repairs at the factory’s intake point.
The outage will affect approximately 15,000 households that receive water through this program, which processes 22.5 million liters of water daily.
The affected places include Uzanbazar, Guwahati Club, Silpukhuri, Chandmari, Govt. Press area, Kharghuli, Housing Colony, Krishnanagar, Nizarapar, Kanwachal, Nabagiri, Pensionpara, Milanpur, Nabagraha, Udaigiri and Chitrachal hill area.
On Monday, the Assistant Director of GMC’s Water Works Department released a statement saying, “It is for general information to the consumers under the Guwahati Municipal Corporation’s Satpukhuri Water Supply Scheme that the supply will be suspended for two days, on 12 and November 13, will be interrupted due to transformer failure at the inlet point of the Satpukhuri water supply scheme.”
The municipal corporation serves more than 33,000 consumers through three water treatment plants in the city. The Satpukhuri factory, established in 1930 and upgraded in 1984, operates alongside the Panbazar factories (commissioned in 1963) and the Kamakhya factory (commissioned in 1992).
Notably, around 70% of the city’s 3 lakh households depend on private water suppliers or well drillers. To address the long-standing water shortagethe JICA-supported South Central Guwahati water project, with a capacity of 191 million litres, began partial operations in December 2022, serving three of the city’s five constituencies.
