According to official sources, Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and counter-terrorism department carried out a joint operation to arrest Javed Baloch, the main suspect in last month’s attack on Karachi Airport in Balochistan.

Two other suicide bombers were also arrested in the province.

Pakistani police said the arrest took place in the Windar Lasbela area of the restive province of Balochistan. Officials confirmed that Javed Baloch provided information about the departure of Chinese nationals from Karachi airport to the suicide bombers, facilitating the attack that killed three Chinese citizens.

The separatist militant group, the Baloch Liberation Army, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Last Tuesday, two Chinese citizens were injured in Karachi after a shooting by a security guard at a garment factory. This is the latest incident in a series of attacks that have put pressure on China to demand better security measures from Islamabad for its citizens.

Reacting to these incidents, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday that China would continue to support Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. Lin Jian affirmed that China and Pakistan are determined to counter any attempt to weaken their relations.

At a weekly press conference, the spokesperson added: “Terrorists will pay the price for their attempts to undermine China-Pakistan relations.”

The escalation of attacks on Pakistani officials and Chinese nationals in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reflects growing security challenges in the region, straining Pakistan’s relations with China.

With attacks continuing, both countries are under increasing pressure to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts to protect civilians and projects in high-risk areas, especially in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
